Leadership Perspective
The true measure of a nation’s progress lies in the agency it affords its youth. We believe that for empowerment to be sustainable, it must be simultaneously social and economic. When a young woman achieves financial independence, she does not just uplift herself, she rewrites the destiny of her entire family.
The Pygmalion Foundation was established in October 2025 with the strategic objective of consolidating and amplifying this exact belief. Our journey began modestly in 2019 with the SWATI Program through Premium Transmission Limited, launching as a small proof of concept with just 20 young women. Once this model proved its transformative potential, we scaled it, eventually establishing this Foundation to unify our efforts. Recognizing the need to invest in India’s youth, we evolved the SWATI Program from basic certificate courses into rigorous diploma and degree programs, ensuring long-term professional progression for our candidates.
Our candidates are young women from rural and sub-urban India, belonging to economically weaker sections. Over 85% come from agrarian backgrounds, the daughters of hardworking farmers and labourers. Bringing them to the modern shop floor begins long before enrolment – it starts with counselling and gaining the deep trust of their parents, reassuring them of a safe, dignified and transformative future for their daughters.
A defining nuance of the SWATI Program is our collaborative model. We forge strategic alliances with premier academic institutions/ skill universities/ training partners. This ensures our students access state-of-the-art lab infrastructure and benefit from deep academic rigor. Furthermore, the curriculum is uniquely co-designed by the academic Board of Studies alongside the technical engineering teams. This synergy grants our candidates unmatched leverage for industry connections, apprenticeships, and eventual jobs.
More than 50% of the training duration is on-the-ground, work-based learning. We actively encourage our academic partners and host industries to ensure our candidates earn stipends during these internships. This early financial reinforcement proves to them the immediate, tangible value of their hard work.
Our training is focused on the future, preparing these young women to lead in core Manufacturing, Electric Vehicles (EV), and Industry 4.0 job roles. This hands-on approach drives our ultimate goal: 100% placements. I am immensely proud to share that the 21 candidates who graduated last year received an average of three job offers each. Today, that success has compounded into a strong, growing network of over 130 SWATI alumni. They are not merely employed; they are driving operations across a host of top-tier companies in critical departments including Supply Chain Management, Quality, Engineering Research & Development, Information Technology and the Assembly Line.
By the time they enter the workforce, these young women invariably become the primary breadwinners of their families. The resonance of our work is growing rapidly; last year alone, we received 1,200+ applications from 28 districts across 8 states, and we are steadily laying the groundwork to make SWATI a truly Pan-India initiative.
At the Pygmalion Foundation, we are not just skilling a workforce; we are forging independent leaders, challenging gender stereotypes and breaking generational cycles of poverty. We remain committed to transforming aspirations into capabilities, one young woman at a time.
